Fighting Hurricane Dorian in Lumberton, NC.

Hurricane Dorian flood preparations

The town of Lumberton, NC suffered devastating flooding, first during Hurricane Matthew in October 2016 and then Hurricane Florence in September 2018.

Having previously failed to keep back floodwaters with sandbags, the town has turned to HESCO to protect homes and critical infrastructure from the effects of Hurricane Dorian.

Hesco Contractor Keith Anderson of the Flood Defense group was onsite to oversee delivery and assist in the building of a colossal 12ft high, 450 wide flood barrier.

“It feels like the whole town has come together to get this wall up” said Keith.
“Lumberton has had a really rough time with flooding in the last few years so they’re keen to get this built before the rain from Dorian hits them.”

The barrier will keep floodwaters from entering West and South Lumberton over the CSX railroad tracks that pass under Interstate 95.

Town officials now say they plan to keep the wall in place for the coming months, to protect from future environmental threats.
