After a long 16 years, Leeds United have finally won their way back into the Premier League. Along with all the pressure this puts on the players, it also brings new security considerations for the Club. One concern; the protection of a temporary media compound.
TERRABLOCK XR is the first-choice solution for rapidly changing circumstances or short-term events. Originally designed with the UK Government to enhance security measures at events and stadiums, XR doesn’t need foundations or any site preparation. It can be deployed at a moment’s notice and once the security requirement has ended, it can be flat packed until needed again.
The team on site used locally sourced ballast bags for this installation, and within a matter of hours, the perimeter protection was ready for the start of the premiership in September.
Elland Road is in the midst of a large improvement project to bring the site up to Premier League standard, with plans to eventually bring capacity up to 50,000. The stadium is already being made television-ready, with improved fog lighting and the required Premier advertising spaces.
Hesco has a long standing relationship with the site, having sponsored the East stand for many years. Leeds United Football Club then approached Hesco in 2011, looking to improve safety for visitors. An enclosure was created for coaches to pass through a police-controlled entrance, and for eleven years has allowed home and away fans to make their way to the stadium safely.
It’s great being back on home ground and to see the installation from 2011 still in situ, though this solution is mostly used for short-term event security, it’s great to see long-term installs too. It’s Hesco strong of course, so still creating a safe area for the fans."
