The basic structure of R-House shelters are manufactured from Concertainer units; a patented prefabricated, multi-cellular wall system made of Galfan coated steel welded mesh, and lined with ISO Standard 200g/m² heavy-duty non-woven polypropylene geotextile. Units are then filled by hand with the minimal use of unskilled manpower and without specialist equipment.
Once filled and connected the walls are able to withstand severe weather conditions and a range of extreme temperatures. The geotextile membrane allows free drainage while retaining the fill material, the roof can withstand extreme climatic conditions, high UV levels and cold temperatures without significantly weakening. The high tensile aluminium framework remains resistant to corrosion or degradation.
For ease of transportation and deployment by road, rail, air or sea, each R-House shelter is delivered on a 2m x 2m timber pallet. The pallet, which contains all of the required materials and equipment including an innovative guttering system, weighs 600kg, allowing up to six houses to be transported in a single 20ft ISO container and 15 houses in a 40ft ISO container. |
