The unique, design of the R-House shelter utilises this readily available material, natural or engineered - from rocks to rubble, sand to gravel, soil to cement. Using a series of HESCO Concertainer units gives it great versatility and enables it to adapt to most moderate ground contours. The combination of its polypropylene geotextile skin and the natural properties of the fill material ensures ventilation and waterproofing and facilitates thermal regulation in all climates. Experience in recent years has shown that successful disaster response is achieved by involving those who have been directly affected. The design of R-House shelters actively encourages those affected to participate in clearing the land and using the salvaged debris to build new shelters for themselves as well as other essential buildings such as medical centres, command centres, food stores, community centres and schools.
